Conclusion
The Thermalright XP-120 with a 120mm fan (Papst 4412 F/2 GL) is so far probably the most silent and most powerfl CPU Cooler on the market. if you wanna create a silent system and have good temps at the same time , this cooler
is a good choice. No other cooler offer during benchamrks with a 763rpm fan such good temperatures. But the extravagant construction may take a bit more space on the mainboard than normal coolers. If you want no noise than , fanless CPU
cooler requiered , however not with such good temperatures. Price/use relation is good.

Thanks/ Award:
We thank the team of www.pc-cooling.de for the test sample. The Silver award this product earns with a good cooling power in connection with low noise
Practical test:
The system ran without any problems. The excellent CoreCell technologie from MSI allowed to lower the fanspeed down to 760rpm on the Silent Papst fan. With that you can call the system silent.
Testrequierements:
On thing i have to say first , so no misunderstanding occur. Our tests are optimized for a very low noise system. This rquieres more cooling power from the cooler , than one which works with a fan running in normal speed. we used the most silent papst 120mm fan , and with Core cell , it ran with 753rpm. even with those setting the cpu temps unter performance doesnt get out of the secure area. to demonstrat what kind of potential the cooler offers , we used also the Papst Multifan 4412/2 , which is everything else than silent , but has such a air power , which leave many other fans easily behind.
Mounting and Installation:
On several maiboard you may have soom space problems during the installation. ur board is such a case , because the chipset cooler is mounted to close to the CPU socket , so the right installation of the cooler isnt possible , and the heatpipes go in the wrong direction and doesnt work in their maximum performance.
The installation on the board work easy with the cpu plastic frame and 4 clamps on the cooler which go into the frame. I recommend to get the board out of the case for the installation.A clamp goes on the heat socket , and two in the the plastic frame below the big heatsink . On the other below the small heatsink is now much space , and there are two clamps which you can grap very easy even with thick fingers like the ones i have. I know exactly what i´m talking about , because i already destroyed two CPUs because i had problems during installing.
Our Corsair LED Ram , whichhas near the double height , made no problem during installing the ram , but still less space where available.
Importand to know is that the cooler works with AMD and Intel but still 2 versions are available. But i saw no differences between them , only that the AMD package contains a plastic frame.
Processing:
The cooler is manufactored good and also the processing doesn´t show any negativs. The 5 heatpipes transfers the heat very because they go in every corner of the heatsink , so a hotspot doesnt show up.
Technical Informations:
The Thermalright XP-120 works with 5 Heatpipes which transfers the Heat into the large Heatsink. The construction is optimzed to work with a 120mm fan. The pipes are mounted very close to the CPU , however it may need more space on the board , and you cannot spin the cooler in any direction.
A 120mm fan is not included in the package and thats ok , because everybody can choose the fan in according to their needs. We use a low spinning Papst fan of course. Good cooling performance and low noise in our pentium 4 3,2 Ghz testsystem.
Forword :
Actually we are only test fanless CPU coolers, but the market is still a bit dry, and so far we only got the NCU2000 and the Fanless 103.
So we are always looking for any intresting alternativ which offer a maximum cooling performance and at the same time silent use. The Thermalright XP 120 seems to have the right requierements for that , because 5 Heatpipe on a large heatsink which permits even a 120mm fan have a great silent cooling potential.
