Notes: The rulting temperatures are maximum values which we got from the software Speedfan. The Samsung SV1203N created less heat anyway and because of that this sesult can be called as good. HDs which creates more heat like 7200rpm Maxtor or IBMs , the result would be more clear. |

Foreword:
Very nice that the the market of passiv cooling products ist growing. Noisy HD Cooler with screaming 40mm fan are finally out. Those fams sometimes are louder than all other pc components together. The heatpipe techology you not only can
find on CPU and Graphic cards , but on many other components. The company Zalman already created a HD Cooler.
Here we will test the aerocool and check the ad-and disadvantages in comparing to other HD coolers.

Practical Test:
We are using here the Samsung SV1203N , which is silent anyway and because of its low power comsumption it creates less heat. Intresting to see here is how sensible the cooler react. For the test we wrote , read and erased datas for about an hour.
The basic of functioning:
the sideparts are connectet to the HD and transfers its heat optimal. They are connectet to 4 heatpipes , which are connectet to countless finns.
We already saw constructions of other manufactors which where not able to transfer any heat
from the HD , and not even speaking of cooling. The aerocool is similar like the Zalman HD Cooler which has 10 Heatpipes but not finns. We will compare both and see which is better , the one with many heatpipes or the the one with less
pipes and coolfinns.
Construction
The construction is actually very easy and effectiv. The cooler has all together 5 parts and 2 side parts with pressure plates for the heatpipe cooler. The heatsink itself has 4 Heatpipes and 40 fins running through. the upper side looks like a waveform with 800 very small air holes in the corners for a good natural convection.
The processing of all parts makes a good impression. The assembling is very easy even for somebody without assbling experience.
Ad - and Disadvantages/ comparing:
The practical test show that the Aerocool is better than the Zalman. The many finns and transfer more heat with 4 heatpipes than Zalmans 10 pipes without any heatsink.
Both coolers need a 5,25” bay , but Zalmans cooler not only cools the HD , it even lowers the noise , plus it can be mounted on the case ground.
Importand tips and recommendations:
I recommend to defract the HD and in use of a software tool monitor the temperatures. If it goes over 50°C a HD coolers is recommended. Every HD we used , even if they reach rarely reached 50°C or more , didn´t last long. The life where usually between 3 month and 2 years. Dead HDs where IBM Deskstar , Seagate and Maxtor. Last one died usually died early.
Basically i can say that a good cooling expands the HDs life , even if they don´t reach the critical 50°C. If it goes over this value , i recommend to use the aerocool , because it has the best cooling performance. If it stay under 50 degress celsius you can use a cooler which lowers the noise at the same time like the Zalman or Silentmaxx HD Cooler.
